Specimen Requirements

Preferred:
Container/Tube: Plain Green Tube (Heparinized Plasma)
Minimum Volume: Tube MUST be Completely filled.

Also Acceptable:
Container/Tube: Lavender Top EDTA Tube

Minimum Volume: Tube MUST be Completely filled.


Collection Instructions: Plasma collected with EDTA or heparin (not ammonium heparin) into an evacuated collection tube is recommended. The collection tube should be completely filled with blood and immediately placed on ice. Centrifuge (cold) the sample to separate the plasma and store on ice until analysis. Heparin plasma must be tested immediately after processing. EDTA plasma may be separated from cells and placed in a pour off tube for up to 3 hours at 2-8 
(Filled pediatric tubes are acceptable.)

Specimen Stability

Ambient: N/A
Refrigerate:  EDTA plasma separated from cells for up to 3 hours. 
Frozen: 30 minutes On Ice
