Important Note

Draw fasting glucose and insulin specimen & finger stick glucose
Give 75 gram glucola
Collect blood at the following intervals:

Fasting Glucose and Insulin

1 Hour Glucose and Insulin

2 Hour Glucose and Insulin

Specimen Requirements

Preferred:
Container/Tube: Mint Green Top (Lithium Heparin Gel) & Lavender EDTA Tube for Initial testing. Same 2 tubes for 1 and 2 hour testing
Minimum Volume: 1.0 mL Serum & 1 mL EDTA Whole Blood
Collection Instructions: The patient will have the initial Insulin Resistance bloodwork collected then have either a 75g dose of glucola or a meal (**Consult the ordering physician for which.) Children glucola dosage is SPECIALLY CALCULATED. Then the patient will be drawn at 1 and  2 hours later for the second and third glucose and insulin.

Specimen Stability

Ambient: 8 hours
Refrigerate: 48 hours
Frozen: aliquot for longer storage
