Specimen Requirements

Preferred:
Container/Tube: 1 Green Bact/Alert FA Plus and 1 Maroon Bact/Alert SN Blood Culture Bottle.

Maximum Volume: 10 mL/bottle  (DO NOT accept Non-Bact/Alert  Blood Culture bottles)
Minimum Volume: 5 mL per Bact/Alert Bottle

Preferred Volume 8-10 mL/bottle

Pediatric Only-0.5 mL Blood per Bact/Alert Bottle                   

Collection Instructions:  Wipe the stoppers of the aerobic and anaerobic blood culture bottles with 70% alcohol and allow to dry.  Label Bact/Alert bottles with the patient’s name, date and time of collection.  Deliver to the Lab ASAP.
