Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube: Plain Red Top (NO GEL)
Minimum Volume:  Draw 13 Tubes

Lab Handling

  • If the patient is at our CDS draw site; call the lab and let a processor know you are sending the blood to the Main Lab.
  • Specimens need to clot for 30 minutes.
  • Once serum is spun down, pipette serum into aliquot tubes. Ensure all aliquot tubes are labeled with a LIS label.
  • If the patient presented to CDS, the processor will tube the serum back to CDS.
  • If specimens are being processed at an offsite lab: process the specimens, give serum tubes to the patient, and discard original tubes. They do not need to be delivered to the Main Lab.
