Specimen Requirements
Preferred:
Container/Tube: Collect fresh feces in a wide mouth container (No preservative) CANNOT be formed.
Minimum Volume: 1 g (unformed/liquid stool)
Collection Instructions: Formed stools will be rejected. Unformed or liquid ONLY. Only 1 sample is acceptable every 7 days.
Also Acceptable:
Container/Tube: clean or sterile container
Specimen Stability
Ambient: 1 hours
Refrigerate: 48 hours
Frozen: aliquot for longer storage

Clostridium Difficile Toxin Screen, with Reflex to PCR if indicated
Lab Handling
Patient MUST be 2 years old or older. If < 2, order Clostridium difficile Toxin, Molecular Detection, PC send out to Mayo (CDFRP).
