Specimen Requirements

It is acceptable practice to transfuse Cryo without regard to the blood type of the patient. (Any ABO type Cryo can be transfused to any patient. Refer to the AABB Technical Manuel current addition.) However, Cerner requires a blood type to dispense Cryo. If there is not a blood type in the history, a reflex ABO/Rh will be ordered. It is acceptable to use a CBC tube to complete the Blood type. Pooled Cryo is manufactured by pooling Rh positive and Rh-negative donors.
